Perhaps we should let the words written by Ferrari best describe their intentions with the 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge: “Ferrari’s GT cars have always been highly competitive in the hands of privateers, and their racing achievements have played a fundamental role in the company’s motor sport history. That’s why the Ferrari Challenge one-make racing series was created – it was Ferrari’s way of getting owners of its road-going GT cars back on the track. The idea for a specific competition for the 8-cylinder cars first became reality back in 1993 with the 348 Berlinetta.
In 1995 it was the turn of the F355, thanks to a special kit developed in-house by Ferrari. The 2000 season saw the debut of the 400-bhp, V8-engined 360 Modena Challenge alongside the F355. The 360 Modena maintains the same output (400-hp @ 8,500-rpm) as the standard road car, but incorporates a number of modifications designed to radically improve its performance in track use.”
The exciting Ferrari being offered began life as a European Challenge car that was delivered new in Germany. The log book indicates that it ran a few (unspecified) tracks in Europe and then was purchased by a gentleman in California in either late 2000 or early 2001. From there it made its way into the respected John O’Quinn Collection.
The Ferrari is powered by a 3.6-liter, 400-hp V-8 engine that has twin overhead camshafts and five valves per cylinder and is mated to a six-speed electro-hydraulic F1 paddle-shift gearbox. Four-wheel disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, full racing cage, carbon fiber interior trim, BBS wheels, door panels excluded for weight, onboard fire extinguishing system, Premier Fuel Systems filler, plus track tow-loops are fixed at the front and rear give you all of the needed equipment to go quickly and with confidence as you put this fantastic machine through its paces. The Ferrari has recently received servicing that included belts and fresh fluids in all systems. Along with the service receipts, the Ferrari is offered with its log book and various European documentation.
