Many have fantasized about driving a black Shelby GT 500 off of the lot in 1967. This no-expense-spared tribute car “makes that dream as close to a reality as one can get.” This 1967 Mustang GT is a factory "S"-Code big-block that has spent its entire life as a true Raven Black ("A" paint code) 2+2 four-speed car—as verified in the included Marti Report. Taking more than three years to complete, this car was rotisserie-restored and custom-assembled with the utmost respect and care at Columbus, Ohio's famed Signature Auto (home of "Boss Cars").
The tribute has been fitted with a 428 Cobra Jet motor, built to sound and feel as confident as this sleek black GT 500 Fastback looks. The coveted Cobra Jet engine has been taken down, blasted, and thoroughly rebuilt with new aluminum Edelbrock heads, aluminum intake, a 750-cfm “double pumper” Holley carburetor, and a factory dual-point distributor. The engine also features all new pistons, crank, cam and bearings. The engine features custom fitted headers to give the engine “a bark as ferocious as its bite.” It has a competition cam and lifters, a Lakewood blow-proof bellhousing with a rebuilt four- speed Top Loader with Hurst shifter.
Unlike many tribute cars, this "S"-Code fastback is reported to boast plenty of N.O.S. Shelby parts that were “hoarded over many years for this creation.” Included are all Shelby fiberglass components (hood, front and rear surrounds, air scoops), as well as the iconic inboard lights. At its core, this car features all Ford sheetmetal, and a completely rebuilt Ford suspension (upper, lower, A-frame, ball-joints) and a reworked nine-inch rear end. The stainless parts were sent to a polishing specialist, while the original Ford chrome was triple-chrome-plated to shine with the finish. This car features all new dated glass, with “an unrivaled attention to detail.“
As a factory Raven Black GT 390, this car features the eye-grabbing deluxe interior. The front seats have been redone, with new foam cores, and a matching Ford folding rear seat. The car has the one-year-only factory Ford AM/FM radio and tachometer. The dash cluster was restored with original gauges calibrated and enhanced bright lights. The owner reports that “the finish on this car is second to none,” and brings the contrast of black and white stripes to life—just like the checkered flag that inspired it. The factory-original aluminum Shelby 10-spoke wheels mounted on Goodyear Eagle ST tires.
The fastidious owner feels that this Shelby tribute car “truly lives in a class of its own.”
“A virgin restoration, this roaring speed machine is an unrivaled tribute that the Shelby and Mustang GT legacies can both be proud of. “
