This car started out as a Chevelle Malibu convertible with a V-8 engine, but was used as a donor body from a rusty true SS 396. This car is reported to have an all original and date correct 396 L78 engine, square port heads, winters aluminum intake, and DZ carb along with an M21 four-speed and 12-bolt posi-traction rear end and front disc brakes.
The entire car is new from top to bottom with a few upgrades that includes all new suspension including bushings, tie rods and ball joints. The suspension has been upgraded with Hotchkis control arms and springs. The drivetrain is also new with upgraded cam, full roller setup, Centerforce clutch with new flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate along with full stainless exhaust and a rebuilt 12-bolt rear and transmission. The body is said to be “100-percent rust-free and has no filler.” It just received fresh red paint with correct SS 396 striping. The interior is brand new with replacement seat foam, seat covers, side panel and even a brand new top with glass rear window in black. This car is reported as date correct from front to back and even includes several rare SS options including the rolling or drum-type in-dash tach with full gauge package. This car also features bucket seats, power top, power brakes, power steering and floor console.
The car has “zero miles on the complete, top-to-bottom, frame-off restoration.
The owner conveys: “although this car started life as a Malibu, it is a true SS 396 aside from the VIN tag on the dash.”
