As the 1957 Ford Thunderbird was offered to the buying public, Ford promoted the soon-to-be classic in the following manner; “For men and women who treat driving as an art, the Thunderbird is a fine instrument that gives full range to their capabilities. Precise steering, tenacious roadholding, lightning acceleration, long-range cruising speed at normal engine rpm’s, brawny brakes that are light underfoot….what more could you want in a high performance car except, perhaps, comfort and convenience? Of course the Thunderbird stands alone on both of these counts. It’s a daily holiday, a pick-me-up that never lets you down.”
The classic first generation Thunderbird entered its final year of production in 1957, and many devotees consider these models to be the best. Styling was freshened with an updated grille, and a new rear end treatment that featured a pair of small fins, which were termed “high-canted fenders” by Ford. Both storage space and handling were improved with a lengthened rear section, allowing the spare tire to be relocated to the trunk. Ten standard exterior colors were available, with many others available by special order.
This lovely red Thunderbird has a matching red interior and looks beautiful being accented with Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels with knock-off spinners and whitewall tires. Many enthusiasts feel that this is one of the nicest looking wheels ever manufactured. The T-Bird has a heater/defroster unit, clock, fender skirts, AM radio and power brakes.
