The 190SL was first displayed as a show car at New York in 1954. This high-quality, two-seat roadster was based upon a shortened 220 chassis and came with 105 brake horsepower, a four-cylinder engine and an optional hardtop. From its production in 1955 through its replacement with the 230SL in 1963, nearly 26,000 would be produced with only a fraction in existence today.
The 190SL was also the introduction of the “options list” for Mercedes-Benz. Never before could a car be personalized the way a 190SL could have been. Everything from ornate color schemes, tops, accessories, seats, and even a very rare sports-racing option was available. These nimble little two-seat roadsters with their iconic, forward-styling were the first Mercedes-Benz convertibles to hit home with the U.S. market and started a full-fledged frenzy.
The new paint is presented excellent in silver; and is matched by a lush red interior that is said to have original seats that are in very nice condition. Moving this German classic is a freshly detailed 1,897-cc inline four-cylinder engine that is producing an estimated 105-hp. For smooth shifting, a four-speed manual transmission is furnished.
This superb 190SL Roadster has had just one private owner since it was purchased in 1958. It was originally purchased overseas, and then imported to the United States in 1961, and it profited from a cosmetic restoration approximately five years ago. This refreshing included fresh paint and new chrome throughout the car.
