Styling was carefully updated under GM design chief Bill Mitchell with a subtle new grille design, while the new rear end treatment foreshadowed the upcoming Sting-Ray with a neat ducktail design incorporating four cylindrical taillights. In addition, the growing list of standard equipment now included a tachometer, seatbelts, sunvisors, dual exhaust, carpet, electric clock, outside rearview mirror, windshield washers, courtesy light, temperature-controlled radiator fan, parking brake warning light and an aluminum radiator.
This 1961 Corvette received a frame-off restoration, and is said to retain the original drivetrain. It has the Rochester Fuel-Injected 283-cid, 315-hp V-8 engine with the desirable four-speed manual transmission. In 1961, 1,462 examples had this fuel-injected engine. The exterior has been beautifully finished in Roman Red with an immaculate red interior and white convertible top. This sports car features many factory options that include: a Wonderbar radio, windshield washers, sunvisors, courtesy lights, package tray and the correct stainless wheel covers with Firestone tires. In the trunk is found the original spare tire, jack with handle, and a lug wrench; all are presented neatly.
The no expense spared restoration is evident through the tidy and uncluttered presentation that shows no detail was overlooked. Corvette engineers wanted to make it clear to all that the 1961 Corvette was meant to be driven, no matter the occasion, the Corvette is appropriate.
