In period, when you saw this model of Mercedes-Benz in movies and on television, the 450SL was shorthand for people who had “arrived.” They were often portrayed pulling up to the finest restaurants and shops, or driving down palm-lined boulevards. In real life, it was often seen in similar settings; its solid reputation translates to the driving experience; at speed the car is light on its feet and well controlled, plus the firm seats are wonderful on long trips. The sense of sporting elegance is in abundance.
Along with the steady 4.5-liter V-8 engine the car is equipped with many factory standards.
