Model year 1954 saw a return engagement for the Buick Skylark, although it had been restyled in a substantial manner. The new-for-1954 Skylark featured extended wheel cutouts. These wheelwell surfaces were utilized in providing the prospective owner the opportunity to have a contrasting color to the overall body tone. For instance, if you ordered a Carlsbad Black car, you could receive either Matador Red or Arctic White inner wheelwells for a sporty contrast.

The Motorama-inspired 1954 Buick Skylark was based on the Century, with a more-powerful 322-cid V-8 engine. Essentially a factory-built custom car, the Skylark features a short list of options due to the staggering number of factory standards. This is the Buick for those with a unlimited appetite for exciting automotive escapades. The spirited Skylark - designated as Buick’s luxury sports car –demonstrated flight-inspire design lines, with a road-holding compactness and a corsair-sweep of a softly-finned rear deck and a pulse-inducing performance second to no Buick ever built to this point in time.

Like its 1953 counterpart, the 1954 Skylark was enveloped with a number of exclusive sheetmetal stampings, but without the hand labor that went into producing the 1953 version. In addition to the above-mentioned wheelwells, the ’54 Skylark had a unique trunk profile with a semi-barrel shape accented by the large, rounded and chromed fins. The hood was also special, but was only slightly deviated in design from the standard Buick lines. The hood ornament was also a stand-alone Buick component for 1954, although it would be seen as the standard for the 1955 Buick line. A wraparound type windshield further contributes to the sports car image that Buick was portraying this model as.

Presented in Condor Yellow (factory code 20) with a Black and Cream interior (factory codes T19 and B15 respectively) and black canvas power top; this superb Skylark has been professionally restored by Harbor Auto Restoration and completed in 1991. The Skylark is a multiple award-winning example that has been cared for in a meticulous manner. With only 836 produced during this model year, this brilliant sportster was quite limited in production. It is powered by the strong 321-cid, 200-hp V-8 Fireball engine and also has the Twin-Turbine Dynaflow automatic transmission. Additional standard features includes 40-spoke Kelsey-Hayes chromed wire wheels, telescopic radio antenna, Selectronic AM radio, WeatherWarden heater and defroster, dual exterior mirrors, chromed exhaust extension tips, vanity mirror, whitewall tires; power steering, brakes, four-way seat, top and windows.

This fine-looking Skylark is a multiple award winner that includes: October 1992 AACA First Place Junior; October 1993 AACA Senior; March 1999 AACA Senior in Orlando, Florida; July 2000 Buick Nationals First Gold Senior 390 out of 400 points earned in Richmond, Virginia; July 2000 AACA Grand National Second Place in Montoursville, Pennsylvania; August 2000 Class Blue Ribbon Award Meadowbrook Concours d’Elegance in Meadowbrook , Michigan; August 2001 AACA Grand National First Place in Moline, Illinois; July 2004 AACA Grand National Senior in Buffalo, New York; plus in August 2008 Best in Class Rocky Mountain Concours in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
