This 1991 BMW 850i represents the cutting edge of technology at the time of its production. Under its finely sculpted hood is an aluminum-block 5.0-liter 296-hp V-12 with the first drive-by-wire throttle system ever used in a regular production vehicle, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. An active five-link rear suspension and electronic stability control, also one of the industry’s first, keep the 850i in control even at the limit, and the interior offers a wide array of amenities that include keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, power sunroof with rain shield, a multi-speaker stereo and windows that automatically close as speed climbs.
