Built by Bill Layman, Bethel Park, PA who was responsible for finding and restoring the original Freddie Rowe-Barris Built ’51 Mercury coupe that was formally part of the world renowned Milhous collection and was sold in 2012 for $423,500. Bill is a very well-known antique pedal car restorer and fabricator who only builds cars for personal use. This car is just out of his long-term ownership. No detailed has been overlooked. This car has been featured in many print and online publications including “The Rodder’s Journal” and “Custom Rodder.” It has also received many awards including a Goodguys top ten pick. With amazing fit and finish throughout this Mercury has been chopped three inches in the front and three and a half in the rear and has an extended decklid. The brightwork is all show quality and the rear window is aircraft quality Plexiglass. It also has frenched headlights and an extended hood scoop along with shaved door handles, custom fender skirts, Sikkens base and clear coat, Posies Super Slide rear leaf springs, and N.O.S. Mercury four-bar spinner caps. It is powered by a 1954 Cadillac big-block bored .030 over fitted with Egge 8.25:1 pistons with six Stromberg 97 carburetors.
