For most of its existence, the Continental nameplate referred to Lincoln’s four-door flagship. In 1981 the Continental’s reign as the Lincoln flagship ended when the Town Car, a higher trim-level till then, took over as the new flagship. The Continental continued from 1982 to 1987 as a mid-size model, competing mainly with the Cadillac Seville until production ceased. Like many Lincolns before it, these were available in various fashion designer influenced trims. Givenchy, Valentino, Bill Blass and Versace headlined the list of designers who chose color schemes and interior fabrics for their respective models.
This 1985 Lincoln Continental designer-series Valentino model is a rear-wheel drive and was originally powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 rated at 150-hp. It was restored and updated in about 2003. A 1989 Mustang 5.0-liter High Output EFI V-8 engine with tubular headers rated at 225 horsepower was installed along with new 16-inch late model Lincoln Chrome-plated aluminum wheels. As with all Lincolns of the day, it is very well-accessorized and the equipment list includes an AM/FM cassette sound system, electronic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, power door locks, power front seats, dual remote mirrors, rear defrost, remote trunk release, and a security system. It is finished in onyx black with a cream leather interior. 1980s Lincolns have a strong following and are considered very reliable by enthusiasts. This special Continental should easily please the new owner.
