Offered is what must be one of the best-kept 944 S coupes available. Completed at the Neckarsulm Porsche factory in the initial “S” production year, this 944 S was equipped for and delivered to the U.S. market, and was fitted with an extensive list of options and extras. This marked the first use of four-valve-per-cylinder heads and DOHC in the 944 series. It was derived from the 928 S4 and featured a redesigned camshaft drive, a magnesium intake tract, magnesium valve cover, larger capacity oil sump, and revised exhaust system, amongst other improvements.
According to the CARFAX report, this S remained in New Jersey since new, and has had just one previous owner and shows just over 15,000 original miles. It was subsequently purchased in January 2017 for a private collection and has hardly been driven since. Today, this sporty Porsche remains in highly original and extremely well-preserved condition.
Recently serviced, this 944 S continues to impress in its factory-original livery of Zermatt Silver Metallic over a black leather/leatherette interior. Factory options include a rear wiper, cruise control, alarm system, anti-lock brakes, and the impressively large removable sunroof. All compartments are clean and tidy, and the factory-applied decals remain in place. It also comes with the original air compressor, tool roll, service bags, and the original owner’s manual is still present. The 944 has recently been extensively detailed and serviced at Porsche Centre Victoria, the invoice for which is included in the car’s file.
These very usable Porsches offer spritely performance in a perfectly balanced package and are finally being recognized as one of the all-time great sports cars from the Stuttgart manufacturer. This extremely well-presented, low-mileage example deserves serious consideration.
