Mercedes-Benz, renown for high-end luxury cars, simultaneously produced a line of four-cylinder automobiles from the mid-1930s to 1939, and again from 1947 through the mid-1950s. The first incarnation was designated the 170 V, with “V” noting a front-engine configuration. This particular example sports the cabriolet B body style, providing a top-down experience for up to four passengers. It was delivered new through the Daimler-Benz Nuremberg branch in March 1939 and is fitted with an attractive black cloth convertible top and finished in two-tone Ivory and black.

The exterior paint is laid evenly along the body, and it presents well as an older re-spray. In consistent form, the plating on the exterior chrome pieces, such as the radiator shell, bumpers, headlight buckets, and laundau bars, shows light patina from use. The elegant rear-mounted spare tyre is adorned with a stylish metal cover, which is finished in the two-tone Ivory and black body colour. The cover is also fitted with an attractive beauty ring, which completes the spare cover and finishes off the rear deck. The underside the of the car presents well, having been finished in glossy black, and it displays only light soiling from use.

The interior presents well, as it has newer black vinyl seat trimming that only exhibits minor wear. A nicely fitted black carpet lines the floor and presents no apparent soiling or wear, nor does the padded beige headliner. Although the upholstery appears to have been recently replaced, the chrome door pulls, window cranks, dash switches, levers, bezels, and trim are all in good original form, with honest patina from use.

The tidy engine bay shows evidence of a light detail and paint touch-ups of the engine and surrounding components, with all work appearing correct for the model. This 170 V is a lovely example of the Cabriolet B, and it will look at home or on the road on a leisurely weekend tour.
