The rarest of the massive, baroque Continentals produced between 1958 and 1960 is the final-generation Mark V, of which just 2,044 convertibles were produced. Today this model is widely considered one of the most outrageous of its era and enjoys continued popularity with collectors. The Shrine of the Holy Grille’s car was originally special-ordered in Turquoise Metallic, code C, a 1960 Mercury Comet color. It was fully restored some years ago in Cherokee Red with a complementary interior, and has all of the luxury power accessories common to the model, including the fascinating convertible top with its reverse-angled, disappearing glass backlight and built-in “parade boot” cover. It fairly begs to be taken out on the American highway – or used for a parade, where it will look right at home ferrying Santa Claus this December.
