You will undoubtedly never encounter another 1966 DeVille one quite like this. As a one-off show car, no expense was spared preparing this soft-top convertible coupe for exhibition at the 2014 SEMA Show. Held annually in Las Vegas through the first week of November, this custom DeVille was exhibited in several different locations during the 2014 edition, though was primarily parked, sitting on the floor, at the AccuAir booth. With a custom AccuAir air ride suspension bringing the 4,500-pound coupe to rest upon five-spoke, 22-inch chrome wheels from American Racing, it comes as no surprise that this sleek, “bagged” DeVille was selected to represent the vendor at the industry’s leading trade show exhibition.
At nearly 19 feet long, the styling of this American land yacht is made all the more menacing by its shaved door handles, clear headlights, and tinted taillights, all strengthening the allure of the extensive brightwork and black exterior paint. Inside, the custom red interior presents in nearly new condition, and other than a select few pieces of highly polished chrome, is an entirely monochrome affair. A modern audio head unit is mounted in the lower console fascia, just below the air conditioning controls. In less-than-ideal driving conditions, the black cloth power top and heated front seats provide all the necessary comfort, while front disc brakes and rear drums assure effective stopping when needed.
The engine is reportedly unmodified, aside from a custom enameled air cover and valve covers. When new, the 7.0-liter, naturally aspirated V-8 produced 340 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. A custom stainless-steel exhaust meets the stock downpipe and terminates just short of the rear axle. Still paired to a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, this custom DeVille convertible offers an enticing, and surprisingly practical driving experience.
Now displaying under 4,350 miles since its transformation into a show car, this custom Cadillac DeVille is truly unlike any other.
