Back in the early 1990s when Porsche was still building air-cooled 993-generation 911 Turbos, its GT2 produced a mere 424 horsepower. The shift to liquid cooling with the 996 generation saw a new version of the GT2 with twin turbos and 476 bhp mated to a six-speed manual box. The arrival of the 997 series gave us a new GT2 with 523 bhp. Irritated that another manufacturer had snatched Porsche’s Nürburgring production-car lap record away, the German firm upped the ante with the beefed-up, 612 bhp rear-wheel-drive 997-generation 911 GT2 RS.

It goes without saying that for the 991-generation of the GT2 RS, the performance figures would be even more impressive, but Porsche would go one step further. In addition to the 691 bhp on tap, for an additional $31,000, customers could request the ‘Weissach’ option, thus creating about as close to a full-on street-legal racing car as imaginable by trimming every last ounce possible from what was already a lightweight car. Producing the aforementioned 691 bhp is a 3.8-liter four-cam boxer engine with VarioCam and twin turbochargers and intercoolers, feeding a seven-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) twin-clutch transmission.

The GT2 RS Weissach makes extensive use of carbon-fiber for the roof, front lid, engine cover, rear wing, the hard-backed racing seat shells, interior trim, the anti-roll bars and drop links, and exterior ductwork. Portions of the body were left unpainted to better display the underlying carbon fiber. Visible behind the alloy wheel spokes are the signature yellow Carbon-ceramic disc brake calipers. The Club-sport interior includes a full roll-cage, and the pair of racing bucket seats are trimmed in black leather and Alcantara. A plaque on the dashboard informs any lucky passenger that they are riding in something very exclusive.

This fantastic and incredibly well optioned 911 GT2 RS Weissach was delivered new by Porsche Salzburg on May 25, 2018 and has been driven less than 2,100 km from new. It presents beautifully throughout and is ready to even more enjoyment on the open road.
