An emerging post-war Italy called for an entirely different type of sports car. Alfa Romeo, one of the country’s most storied marques, was quick to respond with its revolutionary Giulietta, which was unlike any car the manufacturer had offered before. The Giulietta debuted at the Turin Salon in 1954 and was thoroughly modern in every way, but it still embodied Alfa Romeo’s racing heritage. To emphasize that latter point, Alfa Romeo debuted the shapely Giulietta Sprint two-door coupé first, before following it up with the still stylish but more pedestrian four-door Berlina. The Sprint was penned by Bertone’s Franco Scaglione, and it was remarkably balanced in its aerodynamic design. It was curvaceous without being flamboyant, and it was restrained and graceful. Fitted under its front-hinged hood was Alfa Romeo’s peppy new 1.3-litre, twin-cam four-cylinder engine. With an aluminum alloy block and a hemispherical cylinder head, the sophisticated new motor was so advanced at its debut that its basic design was produced for more than four decades.

As the original title shows, this handsome Giulietta Sprint was first registered in Milan in May of 1956 when it was first registered to Cremona on the Italian numberplate CR 31984. Subsequently, the car was then sold to a Mr. Severino Mazzucco in Milan and was re-registered there as MI E 48778, and it still retains that registration today. The Sprint Speciale acquired an ASI certificate in October of 2016 before being acquired by its current owner. It has been well cared for since then and presents well today.
