It was not long after the introduction of the Willys Jeeps produced for World War II that plans emerged for a civilian version, the CJ or “civilian Jeep.” Eternally popular, the Jeep CJ was produced in successive iterations until 1986 when production gave way to the Wrangler. The boxy, purposeful design still resonates today in modern Jeep styling.

This charismatic 1973 CJ-5 is painted in US Army livery and presents as an honest and largely original CJ. It is understood to have been donated in 1975 from the US Army to the Boys Club of Cherokee County in South Carolina, who retained it until 2010.

Unlike many that have been modified over the years, this CJ-5 still rides on steel wheels and has a 258 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine under the hood. It retains its factory steering wheel, shifter, speedometer and other interior components, a study in no-frills simplicity. A side-mounted spare wheel and tire are present. The Jeep appears in generally clean condition overall for a utilitarian vehicle, and would be suitable for use in parades, around the ranch, or as a fun local errand runner.
