When the boxy, Beetle-based Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter first arrived on American shores in 1949, its effect and influence was immediate, as there was truly nothing else like it on American roads. Using standard Beetle components, it was easy to operate and maintain, quickly gaining worldwide acceptance as a highly effective, albeit utilitarian, way to transport cargo and passengers.
Eventually dubbed the “Microbus,” Volkswagen’s unique Transporter was relentlessly refined through its lifespan, evolving into several different and very practical vehicles, including single- and double-cab pickup trucks. With its combination of economy, practicality, and anti-establishment flair, the Transporter, in all of its guises, was of course an instant hit with the Baby Boomers growing up in the 1960s.
The Volkswagen we have the pleasure of offering from the Cars of Dreams Museum is an outstanding example that has benefited from a complete and thorough restoration. As a result, the Double Cab Transporter is in exceptional condition throughout and shows very minor wear, most from limited use. The grey paintwork is very clean and is nicely set off with a red pinstripe. The grey vinyl interior matches the condition of the underbody, engine, and bay, and they are all equally presentable.
The Volkswagen appears to be in very fit running order and is also complete with a luggage rack and assorted red luggage completing the stylish exterior appearance. Showing just under 87,500 miles on the odometer, this rare Double Cab Pickup Truck will offer its next owners not only many miles of enjoyment, but ample space, ease of ownership, rarity, and an enthusiastic following wherever they should choose to drive and display this example.
