For 1917, Ford took the Model T into a new era. Although the bodies remained much the same, the car’s appearance was dramatically altered by new fenders and the near elimination of exterior trim. The fenders were now crowned and curved, and the brass brightwork had disappeared. The radiator now had a sheet-metal shell, it was painted black, and lighting had dropped brass bezels for painted steel. In the parlance of our time, the “Brass T” had given way to the “Black T.”
This 1920 Roadster is an archetypal example of the Black T, with its body, wheels, chassis, engine seat, and top in the single dark hue. Only the hub caps and radiator cap relieve the theme with token bright highlights. It has been correctly restored and features a black grained leatherette top, buttoned artificial leather seating, and a black rubber floor mat. As was standard on this model, the instrumentation is comprised of only an ammeter. Although electric starting was optional until 1923, this car is so equipped.
The car’s paint is exceptional, while the rest is correct and of a high quality, including the minimal brightwork, which is correctly plated in nickel. The five tires are proper 30x3.5 Firestones that are in excellent condition.
This car is ready to run about, and its new owner is sure to enjoy it.
