340 bhp, 390 cu. in. OHV V-8 with three 2-barrel carburetors, three-speed automatic transmission, front independent suspension, rear leaf-spring suspension, and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 113 in.

Ford’s sports roadster tonneau package was originally a dealer-installed option, but in 1962, it found its way onto new Thunderbird order forms and could be equipped as such from the factory, with the inclusion of a passenger-side grab bar, Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels with knock-off center caps, and a rear fender skirt delete, to make for a sleek and sporty look. Despite their more aggressive looks, Thunderbird Sports Roadster production numbered 1,427 units in 1962, but just 455 in 1963, making them rare birds indeed.

This 1963 Thunderbird Sports Roadster was ordered with the desirable 330-horsepower Z-Code 390 V-8 with a Cruise-O-Matic transmission, and it hosts such amenities as a power top, a power seat, power windows, a remote driver mirror, a tilt-away steering wheel, power steering, and power brakes. It is an especially well-equipped example that has been requisite to a complete restoration, which was completed in the spring of 2014. The powertrain was completely rebuilt, and no expense was spared to bring this “Bullet Bird” to an incredible standard.

A key upgrade to this elegant Thunderbird is the change to a tri-power intake system, which allowed for additional power and value. The original paint code of Silver Mink Metallic was an excellent choice, and the original black upholstery has been nicely restored with silver piping. Soft Haartz cloth material now covers the folding top, and the exterior is highlighted with fresh, brilliant chrome and polished stainless trim. There is much to appreciate on this very fine Ford, as it has been restored and detailed in every area. It is an excellent example of a very rare Bullet Bird.
