This car is one of the very last Jensen Interceptors built. The firm built only 512 Interceptor Mark III convertibles between 1974 and 1976, 80 percent of which were left-hand drive, destined principally for the North American market. Chassis number 2311/1984 was originally intended to be built as a coupé, but as it was designated for the Californian market, it was in fact built in March 1976 as a convertible finished in black with a black interior. It was invoiced on 20th July 1976 to Jensen Motors Inc. in San Francisco, who subsequently sold it to its first owner, S. Weathers Lowin of Los Angeles. The car eventually found its way back to Europe in the 1990s via Holland and then spent a number of years in the ownership of an Englishman in Majorca.

It is not known when this car was restored, but it is now presented very nicely in dark metallic blue with a matching dark blue power-operated roof. It is fitted with air conditioning, an Alpine stereo system with a CD auto-changer and a very nicely preserved tan leather interior and contrasting blue wool carpeting. Finishing off the luxurious and elegant feel to the interior are the lovely full-walnut dash and a recently fitted Moto-Lita steering wheel, which suits the car very well. It came back to the UK in early 2010 when it was purchased by the present owner and registered on English licence plates, inspected for its MoT and made ready for some summer driving. It is complete with recent invoices from noted Jensen specialist Richard Appleyard, who went through the car completely to ensure everything was operating as it should, and is described by the current owner as a very good driver. The engine bay has also recently benefitted from professional detailing.

These final MK III Interceptors are powered by an immense 7.2-litre Chrysler V-8, and this particular car has the more potent “six-pack” SP carburettor upgrade. Its impressive 330 bhp is transmitted to the road via a set of alloy wheels of the S-4 type. The car is presented in very nice all around condition, in smart and understated colours, and is complete with a fresh UK MoT certificate.
