Launched in 1972 to replace the mechanically identical DBSV8, the Aston Martin V8 (or AMV8) was the final model development during the David Brown era and went on to become the company’s longest-running motor car. A true four-seater with the potential for a genuine 160 mph, this hand-built British performance car was one of the fastest and most elegant cars of its generation.

Penned by talented Aston Martin designer William Towns, the AMV8 continued within the coachbuilding traditions of its distinguished predecessors while simultaneously upping the ante on both power and performance. Its Tadek Marek-designed, alloy block-and-head 5.3-litre V-8 featured dual overhead camshafts per cylinder bank and produced an estimated 350 bhp in standard form with its quartet of dual-choke Weber carburettors. Potent disc brakes and sophisticated underpinnings provided excellent ride and handling characteristics.

Numerous changes occurred during the lengthy production run of the AMV8, including updates to the body with the addition of dual driving lights inset into the grille, a ‘fliptail’ rear spoiler and ground effects that were fitted in the mid-1980s. Mechanical specifications were also further refined over the years. Nevertheless, today’s collectors and marque enthusiasts regard the limited-production, early-series cars as the purest expression of the form, and today they remain extremely desirable and collectible as perhaps the quintessential GT car of the 1970s and 1980s.

Aston Martin (Sales) Ltd. of Sloane Street, London sold this fine example new on 7 January 1977 to Lord Rotherwick. The current owner acquired it approximately nine years ago, not long after it had undergone a major refurbishment. Mileage is currently just over 100,000. Offered from a private automobile collection and equipped with a robust TorqueFlite three-speed automatic gearbox, it is in excellent all-around condition and complete with a comprehensive history file.
