Originally finished in Nero (FER 1240) over Nero and completed by Ferrari in October of 1988, this is a later production Testarossa fitted with dual side mirrors and the five-lug wheels design. Completed by Ferrari in October of 1988, according to the accompanying Carfax the car was first registered in March of 1989 in New York.

After spending the first few years of its life in the Empire state, the Testarossa moved to Oregon in 1993 where it would reside for the following two decades before returning to the East Coast when purchased by an owner in New Jersey. Moving much further afield with its next owner, the car found a new home in Hawaii in late 2017, where it remained until earlier this year when finally repatriated to the U.S. mainland.

Upon its arrival in southern California, the Testarossa was treated to an engine-out, major service in May of 2026 carried out by Francorchamps of America in Costa Mesa. This included replacement of the timing belts, recharging the air conditioning, a brake and clutch fluid flush, replacement of the fuel lines and final drive seals, and the fitment of a rebuilt clutch, totaling to $38,407.16. Having accrued minimal mileage since completion of the major service, the car is currently showing just 31,872 miles from new.

Arguably one of Ferrari and Pininfarina’s most iconic designs, the Testarossa defined the brand throughout an era that was defined by unbridled ambition and excess. Some of the most famous individuals of the 1980s, including Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, M.C. Hammer, Rod Stewart, owned Testarossas, further cementing the car’s stardom in addition to its role alongside Don Johnson in Miami Vice. Away from the limelight and the red carpet, the Testarossa is an excellent car to drive and enjoy, comfortable yet sporting and with a surprising amount of luggage space for longer trips.

In the case of this particular car, Testarossas finished in black over black are rarer than one would expect, with cars finished as such said to account for approximately 4% of Testarossa production. With a recently completed major service, this example is ready to use and enjoy as not only a landmark automotive design, but an icon of the 1980s.
