Launched in November 1963 at the Salone Internazionale dell’Automobile di Torino, the Maserati Mistral was the last model produced by the Casa del Tridente to boast the company’s infamous twin-spark dual-overhead-cam straight-six engine—as fitted to Maserati 250F Grand Prix cars. Later Mistrals received 4.0-liter powerplants that produced 265 horsepower.

From 1963 to 1970, it is believed only 830 coupes were built. In 1968, Stanley W. Good Jr. entered a Mistral Coupé into the prestigious and legendary Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and won "Best of Show,” underpinning the attractive Maserati's top-class credentials.

The Mistral 4.0 Coupe on offer was completed at the Maserati factory in September 1968, finished in Celeste Chiaro (Metallic Light Blue) paint over a black leather interior. A North American-market, fuel-injected example, the car was delivered new to San Francisco, California.

In 1977 the car was procured by Rudi Klein and brought to the junkyard according to a purchase document on file, and an accompanying photograph from the period shows the coupe in its current condition. Today, the car appears in its factory-delivered colors; most importantly, it still retains its numbers-matching inline six-cylinder engine.

An enticing subject for restoration or a trove of hard-to-come-by parts, this Maserati Mistral 4.0 Coupe is sure to provide its next owner the opportunity to undertake a rewarding project.
