BMW Motorsport built just 786 examples of the E30-generation M3 Cabriolet, the division’s first convertible offering. The fabled S14 four-cylinder engine, based on the same M10 block that could be wound up to approximately 1,300 PS for a qualifying lap in Formula 1, initially delivered 195 PS. This car—produced in April 1991, towards the very end of the 1988 to June 1991 production run—is one of circa 480 M3 Cabriolets to benefit from the more potent 215 PS 2.3-litre motor, which is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Specified with appealing Diamantschwarz paintwork over a Silver Nappa leather interior that was equipped with heated front seats, this M3 was purchased by its first owner through BMW Darmstadt, Germany in November 1991. It was later acquired by The Best of M Collection in September 2014 and has been very seldom driven but regularly maintained since. The most recent service was performed in May 2025 at Autoleth A/S of Haderslev in Denmark. Showing 41,583 kilometres at the time of cataloguing, the BMW retains its matching-numbers engine and it is accompanied by a spare wheel, tool kit, owner’s guides in their leather folio, and a BMW Classic Birth Certificate.
