BMW Motorsport developed the original M3 to satisfy the Group A motorsport regulations. Then, to keep the E30-generation touring car at the front of the grid during 1987 and 1988, enhanced Evolution 1 and Evolution 2 models were swiftly introduced. But only the hallowed, lighter Sport Evolution edition gained the enlarged 2.5-litre inline-four engine. Rated at 238 PS, it was the most powerful version of the original M3.
Just 600 examples of the Sport Evolution were built, with the car offered here holding an 18 January 1990 date of production. It was delivered in April via the Edwin Gerber marque dealership in Burgdorf, Switzerland. Service stamps indicate that between 1993 and 2005, the M3 resided in Norway.
Beautifully presented in Brilliantrot and featuring black leather bucket seats with accenting red seatbelts plus a suede steering wheel and gear knob, this car was purchased by The Best of M Collection in November 2015. It is noted to retain its matching-numbers engine. Following a May 2025 service performed by Autoleth A/S of Haderslev in Denmark, the M3 Sport Evolution displayed 34,446 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
