Founded in Frankfurt by the charismatic and relentlessly inventive husband-and-wife team of Rainer and Kathrin Buchmann, bb-Auto Exclusiv emerged during the golden age of German tuning. The Buchmanns worked primarily with Porsches for a simple reason: as Rainer put it, Porsche “built the most reliable, high-quality cars.” From that exceptionally solid foundation, they created extraordinary one-offs distinguished by bespoke coachwork, lavish interiors, audacious color combinations, and technology that seemed—and often genuinely was—decades ahead of its time.

They pioneered digital dashboards and multifunction steering wheels, introduced remote door locks and parking sensors, developed electric steel hardtops and flat-nose conversions, and experimented with pearlescent finishes long before such ideas became commonplace. In many respects, bb-Auto was imagining the automobile of tomorrow while the mainstream industry was still building the car of today.

This remarkable 928 Cabriolet conversion by bb-Auto is finished in a brilliant blue reminiscent of Porsche’s Arrow Blue. The signature bb front spoiler lends the car a more assertive stance, while the dramatic exterior sets the stage for an extraordinary interior. Upholstered in vivid blue leather with a striking duotone treatment, the cabin features custom Recaro C-seats, a bespoke bb dashboard, and the remarkable DINFOS digital instrument cluster. Together, these elements create an almost interstellar, futuristic atmosphere—an unusually early vision of the digital automobile, long before such technology became commonplace.

For collectors of significant chapters in automotive tuning history, this is far more than a modified Porsche. It is a remnant of a time when ambitious enthusiasts and tuners challenged convention and explored what the automobile could—and perhaps should—become.
