Replacing the legendary Lamborghini Diablo was not an easy brief. Since its launch in 1990, the supercar had become a bedroom wall pin-up and a true icon of the Sant’Agata marque. Tasked with bringing the next Raging Bull supercar to life, designer Luc Donckerwolke crafted a pure and angular design that intrinsically oozed the marque’s DNA. As the first all-new Lamborghini built under the tutelage of parent company Audi, the Murciélago was a huge step forward for the Italian supercar manufacturer. Finally able to compete on a level playing field with Ferrari and Porsche, the Murciélago showed that Lamborghini could produce cars that combined incredible performance and visual panache with the reliability its customers expected.
At the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini unveiled the third-ever car from their stable to wear the Super Veloce nameplate. The Murciélago LP 670-4 SV was conceived to be the ultimate expression of Lamborghini performance. Track-ready and lightweight, 220 pounds were extracted through the extensive use of carbon fiber and a new exhaust system. Performance was pushed even further on the powertrain front. Engineers were able to extract 30 more horsepower from the legendary 6.5-liter V-12 through revised timing and an upgraded intake system. This grunt was fed through an automated manual six-speed gearbox and out to all four wheels. The supreme level of traction results in a 3-second zero to 60 mph time and an ultimate top speed of 212 mph. To rein in this speed, 15-inch carbon ceramic brakes clamp hard and additionally provide a weight benefit.
Just 350 examples were slated for production, designated for Lamborghini’s most enthusiastic customers and those who were willing to turn the intensity up on the already wild LP640-4. However, economic conditions dampened demand at the time and it is believed only around 165 examples ever left the factory gates, making the Super Veloce rarer than ever anticipated.
Completed at the factory in September 2009, this 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV is being publicly offered for the very first time in its history. An immensely desirable machine, this Super Veloce has had just one owner from new and presents with 791 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloguing. The limited use over the years has allowed the vehicle to remain incredibly well-preserved, and today it shows with its original paint and tires. The Lamborghini has additionally received a fresh service and will be accompanied by its books, tools, and documents including the original window sticker.
Incredibly specified from the factory, it is believed to be one of eight US examples with an exterior finished in Nero Aldebaran, with matching black wheels and contrasting yellow “SV” decals. A clean silhouette is maintained through the selection of the duct tail spoiler as opposed to the more popular Aeropack Wing. Inside, the largely black Alcantara interior features bright yellow contrast stitching. Unique Ad Personam touches include a perforated leather steering wheel.
The sale of this Murciélago LP 670-4 SV presents as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for supercar enthusiasts. A true “ghost” which has evaded public eyes for over a decade, it is likely the finest example on the market.
