Of the highly exclusive models Aston Martin and Italian coachbuilder Zagato have produced together since the early 1960s, remarkably few are convertibles. First among them was the ultra-rare 1987 V8 Vantage Zagato Volante. The second jointly produced open model emerged almost two decades later, the 2003 DB AR1 Zagato. Then, after another 14 years, Aston Martin unveiled its third convertible to feature Zagato bodywork, the 2018 Vanquish Zagato Volante.

Debuting alongside a closed-roof production version of its closed-roof twin at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the drop-top Vanguish Zagato Volante shared the coupe’s bladed rear-end treatment and other styling cues adapted from the Vulcan supercar, as well as side mirrors similar to those on the One-77 hypercar. Twin cowls integrated into the Volante’s rear deck recalled the coupe’s double-bubble roof, a signature design feature of the Italian coachbuilder.

Zagato worked with Aston Martin’s elite Q division to develop special trim and materials for the interior, including Z-pattern quilted stitching on the supple Caithness leather upholstery and herringbone-patterned carbon fiber applied to the dashboard and doors. Under the hood, an enhanced version of Aston Martin’s AM29 5.9-liter V-12 engine sent well over 550 horsepower to the rear wheels through a responsive and smooth-shifting ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The performance and sound from its potent engine, combined with the unflappable poise of its well-balanced chassis—replete with stiffer suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and 20-inch wheels—ensure that the Vanquish Zagato Volante delivers far more than stunning looks and open-air enjoyment. And with only 99 produced, it remains quite rare—in keeping with Aston Martin Zagato tradition.

This Vanquish Zagato Volante is number 87 of 99 produced and was delivered new to California. The exterior is finished in Almond Green, a special color by Aston Martin Q. Its Atlantic Blue soft-top with Tailors Grey Rokona headliner coordinates beautifully with the Aurora Blue and Argento Grey leather interior, which also features twill carbon fiber and satin bronze trim, Warm Charcoal seatbelts, and Blue Haze heavyweight carpets. The One-77-style steering wheel is finished in Aurora Blue leather with carbon fiber shifter paddles, while the heated sport seats include embroidered Zagato headrest logos in Galena Silver. Other exterior highlights include stunning 15-spoke Zagato Gloss Black Diamond-Turned wheels, grey brake calipers, black textured tailpipe finishers, carbon side strakes, and black side window surrounds.

In December 2023, the official Aston Martin dealership in Mexico City carried out maintenance work, which included changing the fluids and filters, replacing the battery, and cleaning the injectors. Now offered showing just 3,293 kilometers (~2,046 miles) on the odometer at cataloguing time, this stunning and rare Vanquish Zagato Volante will be a highlight of any late-model supercar collection.
