By the late 1980s, the Lamborghini Countach was already a certified icon, an angular, mid-engine fantasy that had spent over a decade warping young minds and adorning bedroom walls across the globe. With the arrival of the 25th Anniversary Edition in 1988, Lamborghini did more than just celebrate a milestone year for the supercar: It sent off its most outrageous creation with a final, unapologetic roar.

The 25th Anniversary Countach was not a radical reinvention, but rather a thoughtful, precision-tuned evolution of everything that had made the Countach extraordinary. Horacio Pagani was tapped to refine the car’s famously aggressive bodywork. What resulted was a suite of subtle but effective aerodynamic updates: reworked front and rear bumpers, deeper air intakes, revised side skirts, and new cooling ducts over the rear wings. The cabin, too, took a measured step toward civility via power-operated seats and windows, standardized climate control, improved bolstering, and a reengineered steering assembly. The new Countach was still a supercar that demanded commitment but, for the first time, was one that also offered a degree of comfort bordering on usability.

Under the rear deck, the familiar 5.2-liter V-12 remained, producing around 455 horsepower, paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. The mechanicals benefitted from fine-tuning courtesy of rally legend Sandro Munari, who revised the suspension and fitted wider Pirelli tires to help tame the beast’s famously unruly handling.

Performance remained blistering: 0 to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, with a top speed north of 180 mph. But the real achievement of the 25th Anniversary Edition was its balance, as it retained every bit of the Countach’s flamboyance while smoothing over its roughest edges. Produced from 1988 to 1990, the 25th Anniversary Edition rightfully became the most commercially successful Countach, with a run of approximately 657 units.

Sporting exceptional provenance and fascinating documentation from new, this remarkable 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition, chassis KLA12643, displays just 5,655 kilometers (~3,514 miles) at the time of cataloguing. Delivered through F.C. Kerbeck & Sons of Palmyra, New Jersey, the car was finished as it is today black over black leather, with the only optional extra being the model’s iconic rear wing. According to its original sales agreement on file, KLA12643 was sold 23 July 1991 to a cardiologist from Lakewood, New Jersey, who paid an extraordinary $51,000 over the $154,000 MSRP to secure their prize. The accompanying service records, dating from the early 1990s, reflect diligent care and maintenance performed by the original selling dealer, F.C. Kerbeck & Sons, with the first owner reportedly retaining the car until 2016.

Since parting with its original caretaker, subsequent ownership undertook subtle cosmetic refinements, including refinishing the dash and the installation of a European-specification front bumper. In June 2025, the car received a service by Pocono Sportscar of Shohola, Pennsylvania which included an oil change and new brake and clutch fluid. The car is now accompanied by its tool roll and service records, along with its original sales contract, window sticker, loan release form, and warranty booklet in pouch.

As the final chapter in the Countach saga, the 25th Anniversary Edition served as a fitting farewell to Lamborghini’s most audacious creation. This fascinating example, boasting low mileage and documented provenance, offers a compelling opportunity to acquire one of the definitive poster cars of the 20th century—still as bold, brash, and breathtaking as the day it was delivered.
