In 2019, Ferrari introduced two cars called “SF90,” a reference to the 90th anniversary of the founding of Scuderia Ferrari. At first glance, they could not have been more different. One was a Formula One racecar; the other was an extreme supercar intended primarily for the road, as indicated by its name, SF90 Stradale.
In reality, they share far more than a name. Continuing Ferrari’s longstanding practice of adapting motorsport technology for the road, both the Formula One car and the SF90 Stradale are built around an advanced hybrid powertrain. The SF90 Stradale features a 769-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-8 paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, along with three electric motors—one behind each front wheel, with another at the rear—and a 7.9-kilowatt lithium-ion battery pack. Although this hybrid system enables up to 16 miles of electric-only driving—certainly a nice bonus—the main purpose is power: The motors can deliver up to 217 additional horsepower, for an incredible total output of 986 horsepower.
Performance is predictably staggering: 0–60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, and a top speed of 211 mph. As with a Formula One racer, however, velocity is only one part of the equation. This new supercar features Ferrari’s latest arsenal of agility-enhancing technology. The two front motors permit torque-vectoring control, while the F1 Traction Control, E-Diff, Electronic Side Slip Angle Control, and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer 2.0 are standard. All these features combine to seamlessly enhance both safety margins and driving enjoyment. Ferrari’s signature, steering wheel-mounted drive-mode selector—dubbed the “eManettino” in this application—not only governs performance parameters as with other Ferraris, but also controls the various states of hybrid-electric operation and battery power regeneration.
The car’s exterior is a sculptural masterpiece of aerodynamic devices, which manipulate airflow to control drag and downforce via several active elements. Inside, the high-tech cockpit features a fully digital dashboard and novel touch controls, all resulting in a car that truly embraces and integrates the latest tech in pursuit of the ultimate driving experience, whether on road or track.
The SF90 Stradale debuted in 2019, while the open-top SF90 Spider was unveiled in November 2020, featuring a new version of Ferrari’s ingenious retractable hardtop. It brings the best of both worlds, preserving the integrity and beauty of the Stradale’s coupe silhouette, while seamlessly transitioning to open-air motoring in just 14 seconds. The lightweight aluminum top is 88 pounds lighter than a conventional retractable hardtop and takes up half the space when stowed neatly under the rear tonneau.
An SF90 Spider Unlike Any Other
The SF90 Spider offered here represents an incredible opportunity to circumvent the years-long waiting period typically required with bespoke Ferraris. Heaped with nearly $178,000 of individual specifications custom-ordered through the company’s elite Atelier program, it is unique in the world—no other SF90 is like it.
The exterior is finished in stunning, special-order Azzurro Dino Mica paint, a $33,000 option combined with special livery featuring tasteful black and yellow graphics—an additional $30,373. Every customized component was given careful forethought, as seen in the black 20-inch forged wheels, black tailpipes, and exposed carbon-fiber elements throughout, which beautifully offset the deep blue paint. Vivid yellow striping and brake calipers punctuate the presentation and highlight the fender-mounted Scuderia shields. Inside, Nero leather provides a sumptuous base for additional details deliberately chosen to weave the exterior’s rich color palate into the cabin, which include blue contrast stitching, numerous exposed carbon-fiber elements, and yellow seatbelts, along with yellow embroidered logos on the leather and Alcantara floormats and headrests of the size-large, carbon-fiber Daytona racing seats, which also feature perforated Alcantara inserts and seat lifters for enhanced ergonomics. Other special equipment designed to improve convenience, safety, and driving enjoyment includes Ferrari’s Advanced Front Lighting System (AFS), suspension lifter, Apple Carplay, fire extinguisher, and wheel stud bolts in titanium.
A beautifully executed and singular example of one of the most desirable and elusive modern-day supercars in existence, this exceptionally well-detailed, Atelier-customized SF90 Spider is the perfect choice for Ferraristi seeking something beyond the usual offering from Modena and within a far shorter timeframe than can typically expected for custom-ordered options.
