Often called “The Last Great Alfa”, the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 is widely regarded as a pivotal bridge between the company’s bygone, hand-built pre-war era and the mechanised mass-production that soon followed. It remains among the marque’s most collectable vintage models, combining performance, style, and luxury.
Marque historian Angelo Tito Anselmi notes that this 6C 2500 Super Sport was built in right-hand-drive configuration and equipped with engine number 928167 beneath cabriolet coachwork executed by Pinin Farina. The car was completed on 4 January 1950 for subsequent delivery to the Alfa Romeo dealer Ermanno Perrod at the eye-watering cost of 3,700,000 Lire.
Research completed in 2023 by Archivio Targhe has revealed that this 6C 2500 Super Sport was initially sold to a resident of Viella during September 1950 before passing to the ownership of the noted Turinese gentleman driver Franco Rol on 21 December 1950. Rol was a passionate and talented Alfa Romeo impresario whose racing exploits include no fewer than 10 entries in the Targa Florio, Mille Miglia, and Giro di Sicily. In 1949 alone, Rol won the Pescara Grand Prix, the Dolomite Cup, finished 2nd overall in the Targa Florio, and earned a class win and 3rd overall finish in that year’s Mille Miglia. In late-1951, Rol sold chassis number 915855 onward to a Swiss national. The car would remain there for many years, between several consecutive enthusiast owners.
On 18 October 2000, this 6C was purchased by the consignor from a dealer in Milan; during their ownership it has been completely and exhaustively restored to the very attractive triple-green colour combination it wears today. The Pinin Farina coachwork was entirely stripped and subsequently repaired (where required) with new metal. The original dark green leather interior was masterfully recreated alongside a new cabriolet top, which benefits from rebuilt and re-chromed hardware. The car’s dual-overhead cam six-cylinder engine was also entirely disassembled and rebuilt, and a completely new set of centre-lock Rudge wire wheels fitted.
This elegant 6C 2500 Super Sport is an ideal candidate for presentation at exclusive concours d’elegance or enjoyment on major touring events. As a rare example of one of Milan’s most celebrated models, it will make a wonderful complement to any sporting collection.
