RM Sotheby’s conducted its first ever Milan sale on 15th June, with the exclusive 19 lot auction grossing €11,635,000 at the Palazzo Serbelloni. The sale was the first RM Sotheby’s auction in Europe to welcome clients back to a live auction environment, and the well-attended event was a stunning spectacle with the incredible roster of cars displayed under the Italian blue sky and surrounded by some of Milan’s most historic buildings.

It was perhaps no surprise that the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB, chassis #08641, bought new in 1966 by Roger Vadim and subsequently owned by his wife, Jane Fonda, was the top seller on the day. Beautifully restored and presented in its original Azzuro with black leather interior, the Ferrari Classiche certified car achieved €2,255,000. A performance Ferrari from another era, the 2000 Ferrari 550 GT1, was the second highest price achieved on the day. One of 2 cars built by Italtecnica for Team Rafanelli for the 2001 FIA GT Championship and originally driven by Naspetti and Schiattarella, and with a successful period racing career over two full seasons of GT racing, the car sold for an impressive €1,805,000. Rounding out the top three sales was the much-admired 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/L Berlinetta, the 65th of a total of only 350 units built and presented in its original shade of metallic silver grey and fitted with a black interior. This matching numbers and Ferrari Classiche certified example brought €1,478,750. The final car to bring over €1,000,000 in the sale was the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, a car with fantastic provenance and featuring a unique glass hardtop, which brought €1,051,250.

Other notable sales include the 1996 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI ITC, a formidable 155 DTM/ITC Works Touring Car from Alfa Corse. Piloted by Nicola Larini during the 1996 ITC Season,  and offered in race-ready condition, this car brought in €792,500. The 2004 Koenigsegg CCR sold in Milan was the first CCR revealed to the public at the 2004 Geneva International Motor Show, and achieved a final price of €798,125, exceeding its pre-sale estimate, as did the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series III, a stunning, restored example which brought a very impressive €466,250.

Another stand-out result of the auction, was the 1988 Lamborghini LM002. Lamborghini only made 328 of these imposing vehicles between 1986 and 1993, and the car offered was a desirable early production, carburettor-engined version. It smashed its pre-sale estimate and sold for €393,125, a world record auction price for a LM002.

Buyer’s Premium

For Motor Car Lots

  • In the event of a final Hammer Price of €200.000,00 and below on all motor car lots, RM Sotheby’s (“RMS”) will receive a Buyers’ Premium of 15% (plus VAT on the Buyers’ Premium).
  • In the event of a final Hammer Price above €200.000,00 on all motor car lots, RMS will receive a Buyers’ Premium of 15% (plus VAT on the Buyers’ Premium) on the first €200.000,00 and will receive a Buyers’ Premium of 12.5% (plus VAT on the Buyers’ Premium) on the Hammer Price above €200.000,00.

For Non-Motor Car Lots

  • Buyers of all non-motor car lots, including but not limited to memorabilia, motorcycles, boats, trailers, jewelry, and clothing, are required to pay RMS a Buyers’ Premium of 20% (plus VAT on the Buyers’ Premium) on the Hammer Price of those particular lots.

Taxes/Import Duties

Bidders are responsible for any applicable duty and/or local taxes on any motor car(s) or any other lot(s) purchased. International bidders are advised to inform themselves of potential import duties that would be due upon arrival of the lot(s) to its final destination. You are advised to speak with your local representatives in advance of the sale to understand what these costs would be. Lots Under Temporary Import

Those cars subject to temporary importation restrictions cannot be discharged from RMS’ custody without the completion of customs procedures and until full payment has been received. Customs charges will be levied appropriately depending on each individual scenario and will be payable directly to the relevant authorities, which RMS will provide the details of as and when necessary.

Lot Removal/Shipping

Please work with our administration team post sale to finalize collection details and arrangements before Monday, 21 June. Following the auction, all lots will be removed from the auction venue immediately and taken into secure storage in Brusaporto. The fee for this removal is €350 + VAT and will be charged to the buyer. Daily storage charges at a rate of €25 + VAT per car will be charged from Monday, 21 June onwards. All charges will need to be paid prior to the car being released.

RMS strongly advises Buyers to make immediate arrangements for the collection and transport of purchased lots. It is the Buyer’s responsibility to make their own arrangements, but RMS is pleased to offer our clients the services of the following preferred company:
