Looking to reinvigorate its 12-cylinder offerings and give a nod to its illustrious past, Ferrari introduced the 550 Maranello to great acclaim in 1996. The factory had been without a two-seat, front-engined V-12 coupé since the Daytona, and the 550 Maranello was lauded as a wonderful, if not overdue, successor to that iconic model. With grand touring once again a popular activity of Ferrari clientele, the 550 Maranello’s spectacular performance, spacious trunk, and rear parcel shelf that could carry enough luggage for two on a weekend road trip fit the bill perfectly.

Like the Daytona, the 550 Maranello’s success warranted the production of a limited-edition variant: the 550 Barchetta, designed by Pininfarina, and first displayed at the 2000 Paris Motor Show. With only a rudimentary soft-top for emergency use when caught in the rain, it featured a shorter, more aggressively raked windscreen, two-piece alloy wheels, racing seats, and a restyled rear deck that led to a luggage space surprisingly larger than that of the coupé. Only 448 examples of the Barchetta Pininfarina were built, making low-use cars an attractive proposition to collectors some 25 years on from the model’s limited production run.

The example offered here is numbered “011” from the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina’s build allocation of only 448 cars. Original documents on file note the car was supplied by the Milan-based Ferrari dealer Rossocorsa, with the order taken on 21 December 2000. The Ferrari was specified with Rosso Corsa paint over an interior with Nero carpets and leather upholstery. It was marked as complete by the Maranello factory in April 2001. Remarkably, the car has remained with its sole owner, also of Milan, since first delivery.

Further to its dealer order form, the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina is accompanied by a numbered Certificato d’Origine issued by Ferrari, Automotoclub Storico Italiano Certificato di Relevanza, and invoices dating to 2019. These invoices document servicing (with a new timing belt fitted) and general maintenance conducted by Rossocorsa in April and December 2025. At the time of cataloguing, the Ferrari’s odometer read just 7,188 kilometres.

The opportunity to obtain any 550 Barchetta Pininfarina is rare; adding a low-use example in this colour combination is an undeniably enticing proposition for any burgeoning Ferrari collector.
