Aston Martin announced their new V8 Volante on 21 June 1978, in order to satisfy demands for a convertible version, primarily for the U.S. market. The Volante, outfitted with a fully lined and power-operated hood, introduced the thrill of open-air motoring to the already exciting V8 platform. Motor magazine road-tested a V8 Volante in March 1979 and found its performance to be impressive for a luxury tourer, as it had a 0–60 mph time of 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph.

The Volante remained in production for 11 years, and whilst engineering development continued over its production run, the muscular character of the car remained the same. In 1983, the V8 range received a number of substantial improvements, which included revised heating and ventilation controls, and it could be easily identified by its BBS alloy wheels. Aston Martin later introduced an updated, fully realised model, designated the Series V, in January 1986, which featured Weber/Marelli electronic fuel injection with a restyled flat bonnet. It would remain in production until October 1989, marking the final, most highly refined version of the model, which featured improved aerodynamics and could now be identified by attractive Ronal 16 inch wheels.

According to a copy of the original factory record card, this V8 Volante was completed at the factory on 16 September 1988 and was finished in Cannock Black paint with a tan hood, over a matching tan interior with black piping and carpets. It was delivered to Lake Forest Aston Martin Lagonda just two weeks later, and it was soon sold to its first owner, Neil Andrews, of Birmingham, Alabama. The first service was recorded as being completed on 21 March 1989, with the car showing 889 miles. Andrews retained the car for the next 21 years, before it was acquired by well-known Aston Martin dealer Miller Motorcars, of Greenwich, Connecticut, in October 2010. Upon receiving the car, which showed just 4,403 miles on its odometer, Miller performed a thorough and extensive service, costing approximately $20,000, in order to maintain it in as-new condition; after which, it was sold to a UK-based enthusiast. Currently, the Volante is registered in the UK on the cherished number plate of F2 VOL, which will follow the car to its next owner.

Today, this especially fresh and attractive V8 Volante is offered with updated service, which includes new tyres, and it has fewer than 6,000 miles on the clock from new, making it a remarkable find.

Only 245 Series V V8 Volantes were built, and one from its final year of production is considered by many to be the most advanced and reliable of this venerable model, especially since it is now officially collectible at 25 years old. This particular original left-hand drive example must be counted amongst the best in the world, with its rare and desirable colour combination, very low original miles, and recent specialist servicing. As such, we imagine this investment-grade Aston Martin Convertible would be a joy to own and drive, especially with its top down on a sunny day.

D'après une copie des archives officielles de l'usine, cette V8 Volante est sortie d'usine le 16 septembre 1988, de teinte Cannock Black avec capote beige, sellerie beige assortie et moquettes et passepoils noirs. Elle a été livrée neuve deux semaines plus tard à l'agent Lake Forest Aston Martin Lagonda, avant de rejoindre son premier propriétaire, Neil Andrews, de Birmingham, en Alabama. La première opération d'entretien a eu lieu le 21 mars 1989, la voiture affichant 889 miles (1 430 km). Andrews a conservé la voiture pendant 21 ans, avant de la céder en octobre 2010 à Miller Motorcars, distributeur Aston Martin bien connu de Greenwich, dans le Connecticut. Seules 245 Volante V8 Series V ont été produites, et un exemplaire de la dernière année de production est généralement considéré comme étant le plus au point et le plus fiable de ce modèle significatif, maintenant âgé de 25 ans et donc totalement collectionnable.
