Throughout its storied history, Porsche has blessed the motoring world with many homologation specials engineered to meet international competition requirements, whilst remaining perfectly adaptable and legal for road use. The stunning Carrera GT ‘Supercar’ traces its roots as a planned successor to the 911 GT1 of the 1990s, with development commencing in 1999. Whilst FIA rule changes frustrated its endurance-racing plans, Porsche forged ahead with the project nonetheless, and when production ended in May 2006, some 1,270 of the highly anticipated Carrera GTs were built at the new Porsche facility in Leipzig, Germany.

The Carrera GT has a large mid-mounted 5.7-litre V-10 engine, producing 605 bhp, and as expected, its performance is astounding. Acceleration from still to 60 mph is achieved in just 3.8 seconds, with the 100 mph mark shattered in less than seven seconds, en route to a top speed of 205 mph. Whilst never intended for the drag strip, the Carrera GT can also deliver monstrous 11.4 second elapsed times. Mated to the race-bred engine is a traditional six-speed manual gearbox, and a simple, yet elegant, beech-wood gearshift knob that pays homage to the Le Mans-conquering Porsche 917 race cars of years past.

Technical specifications remain stunning today. The carbon-fibre monocoque and sub-frame structure were produced and assembled by the ATR Composites Group in Italy. Both the clutch and brake components employ ceramic composite materials, combining strength, lightness and heat-dissipation properties. Even the Carrera GT’s massive 19- and 20-inch wheels are made from ultra-lightweight forged magnesium. Similar to other contemporary Porsche models, an automated rear wing deploys above 70 mph, providing additional downforce and stability. The Carrera GT interior is an example of purposeful luxury, and safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, as well as anti-lock brakes.

This European specification example offered here is number 985 of a total 1,270 Carrera GTs built and was specially commissioned at the Porsche factory to be finished in Carrera White and delivered new to a Head of State in the Middle East. We understand that Porsche AG completed only one other GT in the same Carrera White colour. The interior is fitted with Terra Cotta soft leather, a Bose audio system, as well as a top of the range navigation system. The car just received a full service and pre-sale preparation, including a new clutch and a MOT inspection by Porsche Centre GB in Reading, UK, at a cost of around £12,800. Now offered for sale in absolutely splendid order, with fewer than 4,000 miles from new and complete with its fully-documented Porsche service history from new, this Carrera GT is nothing short of stunning!
