As part of the Ford Motor Company centennial celebration, the company debuted the retro-styled GT as part of their North American International Auto Show display. A modern homage to Ford’s racing heritage, the GT celebrated the highly successful GT40 program of the 1960s, which won Le Mans an impressive four consecutive years from 1966 through 1969. Production of the new GT began in 2004, with release slated for the 2005 model year. It was offered in six colors: Centennial White, Mark II Black, Mark IV Red, Midnight Blue Metallic, Speed Yellow, and Quick Silver Metallic.
The new Ford GT featured impressive performance, the likes of which had not been seen from a production car built in Detroit. Powered by a 5.4-liter DOHC V-8 engine and equipped with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger, the GT is rated at 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission featuring a helical limited-slip differential. This driveline allows the Ford GT to achieve a 205-mph top speed and zero to 60 sprint of 3.3 seconds. These extraordinary performance figures put the car in competition with other supercars of the time, such as the Porsche Carrera GT and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
For the final model year, 2006, Ford replaced Quick Silver Metallic with a new Tungsten Grey, this in addition to the introduction a limited-production Heritage Edition with a Gulf Oil livery, paying homage to the back-to-back Le Mans-winning GT40 of 1968 and 1969. Exceedingly popular since its debut, the GT was produced for just two model years, 2005 and 2006, during which time only 4,033 examples were built.
This Ford GT was built at Ford’s Wixom plant in May 2006. It left the factory finished in Tungsten Grey with side stripes only and outfitted with two options: a McIntosh sound system and BBS forged lightweight aluminum wheels. The window sticker lists it being originally sold to Town & Country Ford of Ligonier, Pennsylvania; however, it was shipped to Gullo Ford-Mercury of Conroe, Texas. It was later sold in August of 2006 to its first owner in Texas who kept it “in the wrapper.” It was acquired by its second owner, a South Carolina resident, in August of 2013 with just 45.8 miles on the odometer. The second owner “took off the wrapper” and enjoyed the car, while maintaining it at Tidelands Ford and Conway Ford, both in South Carolina. It was later acquired by a Fort Pierce, Florida resident, prior to joining by The Boeckmann Collection in June 2026. Today, this GT has covered just 1,264 miles from new at time of cataloguing. It is accompanied by its window sticker and Ford GT certificate.
Over-the-top-stripe-delete cars are a rare occurrence in the 2005–2006 GT production run, with collectors beginning to catch on. This low-mileage example, one of just 22 finished in Tungsten Grey with side stripes only for 2006, is a wonderful representation of what was referred to in period as Ford’s “pace car for an entire company.”
