Offered here is an exhilarating example of RUF’s revered conversion work—a 1979 Porsche 911 SC thoroughly transformed into the firm’s signature 3.4 CR: a naturally aspirated counterpart to the legendary turbocharged CTR ‘Yellow Bird’.
Commissioned by a German enthusiast in 2014, the conversion was carried out by RUF at the renowned Pfaffenhausen facility, with a multi-page invoice on file detailing the extensive process. The transformation had the car equipped with Yellow Bird bodywork, RUF wheels, a RUF five-speed gearbox, and a naturally aspirated 3.4-litre flat six-cylinder engine mated to a limited-slip differential. Inside, the cabin features colour-matched Porsche 968 Club Sport seats, retrimmed in bespoke jacquard fabric with CR monogram detailing. The result is a finely balanced, analogue driving experience, presented with all the visual and mechanical hallmarks of RUF’s celebrated craftsmanship.
Since its conversion, the car has been meticulously maintained by RUF and other renowned Porsche specialists, remaining in Germany under careful ownership until May 2022, when it was acquired by the consignor, a United States-based enthusiast. Under their stewardship, in April 2023, the car was entrusted to Rindt Vehicle Design Ltd of Berkshire for a comprehensive service, which included removing the engine for inspection, cleaning and re-torquing, a complete gearbox and differential rebuild, and the retrimming of both front and rear seats. The odometer shows 35,555 kilometres on its at the time cataloguing, though this is believed to have been reset when the car was converted. This RUF 3.4 CR is offered with a significant history file containing its German registration papers, original Ruf conversion invoice, service history, and US bill of sale.
With authentic RUF provenance and documented specialist care, this 3.4 CR represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire a unique and highly coveted driver’s car from one of the most revered names in Porsche performance history.
