The Monaco Grand Prix has always been one of the most challenging races on the Formula 1 calendar. Cars running at death-defying speeds, routinely running millimetres from the barrier makes for a remarkable spectacle for the glamourous viewers around the harbour, and for millions more on televisions around the world.

The 1960 edition of the famous race was the scene for another demonstration of Moss’ incredible skills at the wheel. Debuting Rob Walker’s brand new Lotus 18, Moss seemingly had little care for the pristine condition of the car as he produced a dominant display in qualifying by securing pole by a huge margin of one second.

The race was held over a bruising 100 laps which resulted in nearly three hours of physically punishing driving. Moss was untouchable and finished 52 seconds ahead of the Cooper of Bruce McLaren.

He was award this beautiful trophy by Prince Rainier III and his wife Grace Kelly. The trophy itself is engraved with the dual cypher of the royal couple of Monaco. As per Moss and Walker’s personal arrangement, the trophy was kept by Rob and has been retained by the family ever since. This is the second auction to ever feature Formula 1 victory trophies from the Monaco Grand Prix, marking a huge rare moment for historic items like these to become available.
