Introduced in 1959, Jaguar’s Mark 2 was big step up over the Mark I. It offered revised front suspension geometry, a widened rear track, and four-wheel disc brakes. Ergonomic improvements were achieved by increasing the cabin glass area by almost 20%, whilst narrower front and central body pillars gave the car a more refined appearance.

Completed by Jaguar on July 12, 1962 and sold new through JR Inwand’s dealership in Ruislip, Middlesex, it was originally finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with a dark blue interior and built to right hand drive specifications. Its first owner was Air Vice Marshal GP Chamberlin of Stanmore. Fitted with the 3.4-litre inline six-cylinder engine, this engine was derived from Jaguar’s iconic XK 120 and produced 210 bhp at 5,500 rpm. Performance was more than adequate for its day and the car could hit 60 mph from a standstill in 11.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 120 mph.

Purchased by the consignor in 2013, the car is presently finished in red over tan leather, which suits its sporting character. Fitted with a four-speed manual transmission, this would surely provide lots of fun for an enthusiast looking for a classic to enjoy on extended trips with a family of four.
