Looking to reinvigorate its 12-cylinder offerings and give a nod to its illustrious past, Ferrari introduced the 550 Maranello to great acclaim in 1996. The factory had been without a two-seat, front-engined V-12 coupé since the Daytona, and the 550 Maranello was lauded as a wonderful, if not overdue, successor to that iconic model. With grand touring perpetually a popular activity of Ferrari clientele, the 550 Maranello boasted spectacular performance, a spacious rear boot and rear parcel shelf that could carry enough luggage for two on a weekend away.
Like the Daytona, the 550 Maranello’s success warranted the production of a limited-edition variant. First displayed at the 2000 Paris Motor Show, the svelte open-top model was designed by Pininfarina. With only a rudimentary soft-top for emergency use when caught in the rain, the Barchetta featured a shorter, more aggressively raked windscreen, two-piece alloy wheels, racing seats, and a restyled rear deck that led to a boot notably larger than that of the coupé. Only 448 examples were built, and they have become a “core” model for any Ferrari collection due to their provenance and acclaimed gated-manual, open-top driving experience.
This well-presented example is number 343 of 448 built, as denoted by the cockpit plaque. It was originally delivered new to an individual in Celle, Germany. It was first supplied by Krüger, the Ferrari dealer for Hannover, Germany. Traditional Rossa Corsa paint covers the expertly penned Pininfarina body lines and is complemented by the Nero leather interior. The vehicle has been sparingly used over the past two decades, with the odometer reading just 2,641 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
The Barchetta Pininfarina is accompanied by its Ferrari owner’s manuals and its tool kit. Importantly, the service booklet possesses a number of stamps confirming yearly servicing between 2025 and 2021. In April 2016, the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche, indicating that the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina retained its matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox.
The opportunity to obtain any 550 Barchetta Pininfarina is rare; adding a low-mileage example in this colour combination is an undeniably enticing proposition for any burgeoning Ferrari collector.
