Chevrolet introduced the Scottsdale and top-level Silverado trims for its C/K full-size truck lineup in 1975—the latter adopted as the popular pickup’s name starting with the 1999 model year. A mid-cycle refresh in 1981 introduced a more aerodynamically efficient front end, which retained the model’s ruggedly handsome squarish good looks but shed nearly 300 pounds through redesigned sheet metal, new materials, and lighter components. After 1986, all available engines switched from carburetion to fuel injection.

Chevrolet’s beloved square-body pickups have won many fans, all of whom will be hard-pressed to find a lovelier, unrestored example than this incredibly well-preserved 1986 C10 Silverado Short Bed, showing an astoundingly low 3,011 actual miles at cataloguing time.

Tom Brooks Chevrolet-Buick of Lenoir, North Carolina, delivered the C10 on 19 May 1986 to its original owner, Larry Joe Honeycutt of Newton, North Carolina. Remarkably, he would keep the half-ton Silverado—replete with many of the original sales, registration, and factory materials—in mint condition for 29 years, driving it fewer than 3,000 miles, before selling it to Michael Leith in 2015. After acquiring it, Mr. Leith immediately passed the truck to Grant Miller of Pennsylvania, who promptly sold it on to another dealer/collector in Wilkes-Barre, where it would remain for the next 10 years, preserved in pristine condition and scarcely driven. Years later, Mr. Leith came across the pristine pickup and, still taken by its remarkable state of preservation, re-acquired it for his collection.

The original deluxe two-tone paint scheme of Apple Red over Doeskin Tan and the Burgundy custom cloth bench interior present as close to new as one could hope for with a pickup such as this, the likes of which usually led hard lives, contrary to this pampered garage queen. Being a top-of-the-line Silverado, it came far better equipped than standard models, with nicer factory trim and finishes throughout, along with features like power steering and power front disc brakes. The original owner piled on even more options, as confirmed by a copy of the original vehicle invoice detailing more than 30 Regular Production Option (RPO) codes, including power windows and locks, cargo box side rails, cruise control, heavy duty battery, cargo area lamp, auxiliary fuel tank, air conditioning, and—most notably—the optional 5.0-liter V-8 driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.

Incredibly well-equipped and in near-mint condition thanks to its short chain of conscientious owners—with continued careful upkeep within The Michael Leith Collection, including a new alternator in late 2025—it remains an excellent, unrestored original, virtually like new and ready to be admired and proudly shown by its next caretaker.
