As America emerged from WWII, automakers resumed civilian production largely by refining proven pre-war designs. Lincoln's 1947 lineup represented the final evolution of the elegant styling introduced before the war, offering a level of craftsmanship and refinement that would soon disappear with the arrival of all-new post-war designs. The standard Lincoln series consisted of a Sedan, Club Coupe, and Convertible Coupe, while the exclusive Continental was limited to the Club Coupe and Cabriolet.

Although the Convertible Coupe shared much of its frontal styling with the Continental Cabriolet, the two models were distinctly different. The standard Convertible Coupe featured cleaner, more flowing rear bodywork in place of the Continental's signature bustle-back trunk and externally mounted spare tire, giving it a sleeker, more understated appearance. Lincoln's venerable 305-cubic-inch flathead twelve-cylinder—one of the last American-produced V-12 engines—powered both models, paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Buyers seeking more relaxed highway touring could specify the desirable Warner overdrive, as fitted to this example.

The Convertible Coupe completed production in January 1947, according to a copy of its Lincoln build record from The Henry Ford. It was originally finished in Surf Green with a black convertible top over a green leather interior and equipped with Firestone tires, a radio, vacuum-operated antenna, heater, chrome trim bands, fog lamps, instrumentation in miles, and the optional two-speed Warner overdrive.

At some point, the Lincoln was refinished in its current, elegant combination of burgundy over a tan interior with a matching tan convertible top. Behind the matching rear fender skirts enhancing the car's graceful profile are wide whitewall tires mounted to body-color steel wheels with factory wheel covers. The well-appointed interior retains its period-correct clock, radio, heater, and overdrive control, while an auxiliary under-dash VDO water temperature gauge has been discreetly added to provide additional confidence during touring.

One of only 384 Convertible Coupes produced for 1947, this Lincoln combines handsome styling, smooth twelve-cylinder performance, desirable factory options, and documented provenance through a copy of its original build record, to offer collectors an elegant and increasingly uncommon example of Lincoln's final pre-war-inspired luxury automobiles.
