For 1947, Ford’s Super DeLuxe series continued as the marque’s top offering, featuring more amenities than other models. These included sun visors for both driver and passenger and armrests on both front doors, a horn ring on the steering wheel, and passenger assist straps on the B-pillars. Additional brightwork down the sides and around the windows further distinguished the Super DeLuxe from other models.

Among the most distinctive models in the Super DeLuxe series was the Station Wagon. Its intricate wood bodywork required considerably more craftsmanship than a conventional steel body. Ford had the unusual advantage of controlling much of this process through its Iron Mountain facility in Michigan, where skilled craftsmen fashioned the structural wood framing and contrasting panels that gave these wagons their unmistakable appearance.

This previously restored Super DeLuxe Station Wagon is attractively finished in maroon and features rear bumper overriders, an exhaust finisher, chrome hubcaps and wheel trim rings, and wide whitewall tires. Dual side-view mirrors, windshield wipers, and a driver-side spotlight enhance visibility. The interior is well-appointed in brown vinyl and features an attractive woodgrain finish on the dashboard and door panels.

With three rows of seating, the latter two of which can be removed to greatly increase cargo capacity, the Super DeLuxe Station Wagon is as practical as it is stylish. This restored example offered from The James G. Robinson Collection will make for a lovely companion and conversation piece at classic car events.
