The 1948 F-Series marked the first time Ford offered a dedicated truck chassis separate from its automobiles. The landmark first generation encompassed pickups, panel vans, and cab and cowl chassis ranging from light- to heavy-duty, with designations F-1 through F-8. All used a new “Million-Dollar Cab,” roomier and more comfortable than preceding offerings, which was further enhanced for the last two years of production from 1951 to 1952 and dubbed the “Five-Star Cab.” Power came exclusively from flathead six- and eight-cylinder engines with three-, four-, and five-speed transmissions.
This F-1 from the final model year of the first generation has been restored to a high standard and represents a compelling opportunity for fans of the legendary pickup who appreciate originality. Finished from the factory in Sandpiper Beige, it now wears Vermillion paint—a factory color for the model year—over a tidy interior with red piping. The cabin features a deluxe dash with factory-style white-faced gauges, an AM radio, and heater. A non-factory three-spoke steering has been installed but can be easily replaced with the included original-style steering wheel to fully restore the period look.
It is clear from the presentation throughout that much effort went into refurbishing every aspect of the truck, as evidenced by the well-detailed engine bay housing a 239-cubic-inch flathead V-8, the full frame and undercarriage in factory-correct black, and the expertly finished wood planking of the cargo bed. Even the two-inch, dual stainless exhaust is finished with stylized accessory tips and the 15-inch red-painted wheels are dressed with period-correct hub caps and trim rings.
Whether showing or driving, this restored F-1 pickup promises much enjoyment to its next owner.
