American artist Peter Helck (1893–1988) was best known for his commercial and editorial automotive illustrations, as well as fine-art paintings of landscapes (both with and without the presence of mechanized transportation). This matted and framed 1961 letter reveals a more personal side of Helck, as he wishes acquaintance Carl "Christy" Borth, an automotive historian and author, a happy retirement and wistfully recalls the dawn of the automotive age. The letter is complete with a charming, expressive colored sketch of an antique automobile leaving a bicycle rider in the dust.
