Like most automakers in the highly competitive 1920s market, Buick sought to provide competitive and stylish vehicles that bested those offered by the competition. Styling and mechanical improvements were continual, the most important of which was abandonment in 1925 of a four-cylinder engine in favor of a larger six-cylinder unit. For 1926, Buick also updated the styling of the Master Six model lineup by adorning them with aluminum hubcaps and gas caps. The radiator shell was slightly redesigned for a smoother appearance.

For 1926 the Master Six was well appointed with scuff plates, cigarette lighter, heater, clock, smoking cases, shock absorbers, and a vanity case. It also rode on a 120-in. wheelbase. It was then, as now, a fine luxury car worthy of attention. The upgraded engine and luxurious appointments helped Buick achieve a record sales year in 1926, selling 266,753 units, a record that would stand for 14 years.

The example offered here is in fine original condition and had been under the same ownership for the 50-plus years prior to being discovered in a garage where it sat unused. The Buick maintains its original hood and ornament and currently shows less than 95,000 miles, which are believed original. The car runs and drives and will make either an ideal candidate for preservation class car or the ideal start for a restoration project. Of interest is the original 1953 Glidden Tour plaque still present in the car.

Even today, pre-war Buicks are fine and desirable luxury cars. Finding an unrestored and unmolested example is uncommon; given that this is the high-specification Master Six makes this a very special opportunity.
