One of 15,500 Series 62 Convertibles built in 1961, this sumptuous Cadillac was originally delivered in San Francisco, California, as is documented by the copy of its original build sheet that is on file. It made its way, apparently when nearly new, to Seattle, Washington, where, according to the owner, it was driven for many years by a lady owner. That the car survived in superb original condition despite being driven in Seattle is indicative of the care that the lady gave it. That she was a lady is borne by the holes, still present today, worn in the carpet and rubber floor mat by her high heels.

Those are the only major flaws in what remains one of the finest unrestored Series 62 Convertibles in existence today. The Dresden Blue paint and Blue interior are both in wonderful original condition, as is the distinctive light blue top fabric, all of which show only light wear. The engine bay, while properly detailed, remains clean, original, and well preserved aside from a few replaced hoses and clamps. In a recent inspection by an RM Sotheby’s specialist, the panel fit was perfect, with doors that still swing closed easily, and the chrome trim still sparkled like new, including the bumpers, which are still mounted with their Washington state plates.

The car rides on correct bias-ply whitewall tires and is lavished with all of the expected power amenities, including windows, seat, and top, as well as an AM radio and the Autronic Eye automatic headlight dimmer, useful in the Seattle fog. It is as comfortable as it is well preserved.

For the collector who appreciates originality, an excellent unrestored tail-finned Cadillac convertible with 16,070 actual miles must be irresistible. This is that car.
