Lotus’s major move for 1985 was signing rising star Ayrton Senna to replace longtime team driver Nigel Mansell, who had signed with Williams. Senna was partnered with Elio de Angelis, who had finished 3rd in the previous season’s Drivers’ Championship. The 97T proved competitive during the season, taking eight poles, seven with Senna and one with de Angelis, and three overall wins. Senna’s first win was a brilliant performance in the Portuguese Grand Prix, where he dominated by over a minute in monsoon conditions.
This impressive 1:8 scale model is presented as it was driven by Ayrton Senna to that victory at the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril. It is the second of 199 produced by Amalgam.
